There are several definitions of the word – Balance. For the purpose of this post, I would be using one of the definitions set forth by the Merriam Webster’s English Dictionary:
Stability produced by even distribution of weight on each side of the vertical axis
An important requirement for growth is balance, the ability to accurately, precisely and adequately apportion importance and relevance to issues so that we are able to allot the right space and time to them along the lines of a central theme.
This is critical if we intend to lead stable lives. Understanding balance produces stability. We cease being tossed to and fro by the winds- the vicissitudes of life.
It’s important to note that balance is usually around a central or fixed axis, and it’s in relation to that axis that balance is sort and measured. In our belief system, worldview, values and ethics, we must first be certain about what for us is central, and which gives definition to everything else that we do. Then we tether all else to that, ensuring that we do not veer off, going out of scope, out of the coverage of our central axis.
For example. The royal law or golden rule states that:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself
We find here that the central axis is love. On the one hand we have ourselves, on the other hand we find others. So, accordingly the word as was introduced to give an insight to the nature of relationship that should exist between us and others as far as the axis of love is concerned. Therefore as we relate and interact with people, we only but need ask ourselves, are we loving them as we love ourselves? The answer becomes obvious if we are sincere with ourselves and also the nature of adjustments present themselves if required. Remember that to swing to either of the extremes will produce inbalance, it would make us unstable.
As a sage once said:
Keep to the middle of the road
What is your thought about balance?

Really nice one..
Balance has to be a deliberate step of recognizing the central axis and consciously making adjustments to distribute required weight to the necessary aspects.
