With the moon hiding its silvered face on the other side of planet earth and the stars concealed behind banks of clouds, it was a rather dark night as I attempted to find the house of a friend.
To make things more complicated, I’d only visited this friend of mine once: and at night! So the path I must take wasn’t very defined in my memory. But as I was feeling rather adventurous that evening, I decided to brave the slightly unknown.

Of course, I eventually needed rescuing 😅. The circumstances surrounding my “rescue” were quite inspirational (obviously🙃). Unable to find my friend’s home, I had to find my way back to the main road. But even on the main road, the prevailing darkness made it difficult to see anything beyond my nose. Until I gave him a phone call and asked him to shine whatever light source he had on him.
And I who was lost was finally found.
“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord”
Hebrews 12:14, KJV
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16, KJV
How I looked at Hebrews 12:14 changed, the day a preacher explained it as the believer following peace with all men and living a life of holiness such that anyone who looks at that life sees a life that is not being lived for the sake of living, but a life that is being lived for Christ- a life that lives life the way Christ would have lived life.
The light my friend shined that night wasn’t a powerful light source, but it was enough to show me the way to “salvation” from being lost. God is intentional when He asks us to shine as light. The light and power of God in the believer is that manifestation of the sons of God the world is waiting for.
The world system will tend to make you think it doesn’t need the light (of the Gospel) you carry. But once you step out in faith to shine this light, watch how the world will gather round to stare in fascination like Moses, as they gaze in wonder at how this bush burns and is not consumed.
As the Holy Spirit helps you, be a burning and shining light. Be a burning and shining light. Friend, be a burning and shining light.

Be a Burning and Shining Light. Amen
