It’s Okay To Be ‘Slow’…

Ever been in a situation that pushed to saying prayers and requesting for patience? This was my case weeks back when I had a tough strand of beef stuck somewhere between my teeth and gum. 😪

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Colossians 3:12 (NIV)

Patience is a virtue that’s not easy to exude or exercise as believers. This is because the natural man was wired to always engage in activities, and not to be ‘slow’. In some cases, a patient person could be termed as slow based on the response or reaction rate to situations. My question here would be, do you think it’s okay to be slow?

Most innovations around the globe have excelled in reducing the wait period involved in processes and operations. Businesses in this generation are always trying to solve the problem around promptness as it relates to customer relationship and response. In a sense, it becomes an area of strength for you to be fast.

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!

Psalm 37:7 (ESV)

The meat strand gave me a hard time trying to remove it – the more I tried, the more difficult and painful it became. I even brushed my teeth twice in an attempt to but it proved abortive. At a point, I just had to let it be and go to bed.

I woke up the next morning to an upgraded level of ache in my gum and I did my best to carry on my activities without trying to remove it. I chose to ignore the pain until all of a sudden I didn’t feel it anymore. The meat strand was gone! I was so glad and learnt my lesson about not taking any action sometimes.

But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)

There are areas of life where the scripture spotlights the need for you to be slow. It has it’s own advantage and can save you at critical junctures in life.

As believers in a fast evolving world, waiting on the Lord for directions, praying over a period of time for breakthrough and exercising patience in our daily routine remain essential way of life for you and I. So, dear reader, it’s okay to be slow sometimes.

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.

James 1:19 (KJV)
