The Autocrat.

Something really interesting happened recently and it got me feeling super frustrated, wondering why things had to occur that way.

Has there been any situation that got you ‘on the edge’ in the past eleven months? Did you do all you could to fix it? Was it totally out of your control? What was the outcome?

An intriguing quote by Martin Luther King Jnr got me thinking:

Don’t be a fool. Recognize your dependence on God. As the days become dark and the nights become dreary, realize that there is a God who rules above.

I’m sure you’re wondering what in the world happened to me. Well, up until some weeks ago, my phone had fallen a number of times even though I tried to ensure this seldom happened. It developed some dark lines on it and I knew it was time for it to visit a technician, but I hoped fervently for a miracle instead.

Days later, I got home only to discover that the screen had started misbehaving. It kept clicking on anything it liked even when I didn’t give any prompt and I became really frustated. I started trying to figure out how to sort out vital things I had previously been depending on the device for.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Phillipians 4:6 (ESV)

Not long after,I was on a call with my friend, narrating my ordeal to her and she said “Your phone is now in control of itself and not you.”

It was said light-heartedly, but then it occurred to me how true her statement was as it depicted exactly what was going on. And through this situation I got reminded, yet again, that I can’t always be in control.

Conversations on control have been rampant on social media and it is evident that humans, through natural instinct, desire to be in control all the time; in control of the plans and progression of life, in control of body size, in control of decisions made, and so on.

However, as the year wraps up, it is vital for you to always remember to allow the One who created you take control of every part of your life.

[5] Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

[6] In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)

From the tiniest spec to the largest issue, every detail matters to Him. Daily repent and walk away from every desire for control. Instead, request for the grace to be totally dependent on the Holy Spirit and He will lead you right.

Welcome to December!
