The Weight

Have you ever been extremely tired?

I saw something striking days ago and it has remained graphic in mind ever since…Even as I write this.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬ ‭(NLT‬‬)

On my way home from an outing, I started hearing heavy, fast-paced footsteps approaching me from behind. I did a mental calculation to ascertain that I wasn’t in anyway hindering anyone’s movement. Eventually, I was forced to look back because the steps sounded closer and faster.

Two men were carrying things on their heads with a destination in mind. Each man was carrying two huge and heavy sacks of items, they were walking like they were running. I had to slow down completely so they could totally overtake me. As they did, I could see the amount of strength it took them to undertake such an enormous task. They were exhausted!

Cast your burden on the Lord [release it] and He will sustain and uphold you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken (slip, fall, fail).

Psalms‬ ‭55‬:‭22‬ ‭(AMP‬‬)

It was obvious to me that they were moving with focus and precision to their destination but they wished they could get there faster, why? The weight was a distraction they couldn’t do without. Now, what would happen if they found someone to say, “Hand the sacks over, I’ll sort them out for you”? I bet they would gladly give the sacks up without a fight.

As humans, we have cares – life issues, if you will– and they tend to become weights that slow us down on our journey to divine purpose. The moment you notice this happening, is the perfect time to hand them over to Jesus. Imagine Him carrying weights of trillions of people all over the world and He still wants yours, because He can handle it.

Don’t you see? You deserve to move at the designated speed and you can’t do that while trying at the same time to bear everything that Jesus was meant to do for you.

Casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].

1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭7‬ ‭(AMP‬‬)

What more do you do when you feel tired from within? We have assurance in God’s word that all weights once ‘handed over’ will be lifted and taken care of. And it doesn’t stop at being weight-free, it extends to being worry and concern free about the issues of this earthly life.

Right now, there’s a high level of exhaustion that has infiltrated people’s hearts, probably yours as well. It’s time to change your focus and stop making decisions based on those issues you’re dealing with. Hand them over to Jesus and enjoy a weight-free life.

But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.

Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭33‬ ‭(AMP‬‬)
