There are moments where I don’t feel like eating. This is not because I don’t have the foodstuff to eat or the kitchen utensils to cook, the tasks I find myself occupied with often divert my attention from other activities.
A few weeks ago, a colleague came on an ‘August visit’ to my apartment. After spending about seven hours with me and not seeing me take a proper meal, she decided to inspect my kitchen – and saw I had no cooked food there.
She asked about how I take my meals. I replied that I take cereal occasionally. “But if you constantly choose not to eat frequently, you will do damage to your body, especially your [digestive system]!”, she exclaimed.
She buttressed the need for me to take good food into my body, and not just the less nutritious cereals, and instructed me to see nutrition specialist as she didn’t want me to become an individual who relies on food supplements.
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Colossians 3:17 (KJV)
This is also how it is with spiritual things and scenarios. Once a believer doesn’t feel like praying or reading the Bible and reduces engagement in such activities, their spiritual well-being suffers.
Of a truth is important that one pays adequate attention to his/her spiritual well-being. But how can we achieve this?
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:2 (KJV)
Firstly; You can achieve this through constant sincere prayers and the reading of God’s Word. Although it might initially feel difficult, staying in the secret place despite your feelings will instill discipline in you and build resistance to your flesh.
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
Proverbs 27:17 (KJV)
It is equally important to surround yourself with burning coals (i.e., other fervent believers) and become accountable to them, so that you can catch their fire and keep your altar burning like them.
Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:22 (KJV)
Lastly, stay away from everything that can whet your appetite for the things that are not of God and take away your passion for Him.
Child of God, you’re not alone. God absolutely loves you and is rooting for you. He doesn’t give up; and He never will give up on you.
