Something happened from a long time ago that I can’t ever forget, and I couldn’t resist sharing the lesson I learnt from the experience.
Have you ever wondered how children, no matter how young they are, recognize their parents voices?

“The sheep that are My own hear My voice and listen to Me; I know them, and they follow Me.”
John 10:27 (AMP)
My friend and I were having a critical conversation that weaved in and around life, work and personal goals. It was a conversation that kept going on and on to the extent that I totally zoned out from my surroundings.
All of a sudden, he paused and said confidently that someone else in the building was calling me. I was sure I didn’t hear a word asides our voices, so I mentioned categorically that nobody called me. I was ready for the conversation to continue but he insisted.
“The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; The God of glory thunders; The Lord is over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.”
Psalms 29:3-4 (AMP)
I had to move from there to confirm whether or not he was right – and he was. Apparently, someone had called my name out aloud in a bid to get my attention, but I couldn’t hear. In my defense, I actually had every reason not to have heard my name.
Why?
There are two main sides to why hearing God’s voice has been termed as a process that can’t be easily mastered. The experience I had reflected both sides of this. I represented the first part because I was too engrossed with the conversation that I didn’t hear the voice.
“Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left.”
Isaiah 30:21 (AMP)
The other reason was that I wasn’t used to this voice like I was with my friend – who himself was accustomed to that voice and could tell if he heard anything like it.
The main point from this is that God’s voice isn’t frequently heard by anyone who doesn’t have a relationship with Him, a focus on Him or who isn’t familiar enough with Him to know His voice.
“But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep [the protector and provider]. The doorkeeper opens [the gate] for this man, and the sheep hear his voice and pay attention to it. And [knowing that they listen] he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out [to pasture].”
John 10:2-3 (AMP)
It’s a new month in the year and this is a reminder for you to keep following the voice of God. There’s guidance, safety, growth, prosperity and everything beautiful for everyone who hears God’s voice and follows it.
Invest your time, energy and resources into making room to cultivate your relationship with Him.
Shalom!
