Reflection.

According to the Bible Hub Dictionary, the word ‘reflection’ refers to the reverting of the mind to that which has already occupied it

Other definitions include: continued consideration; meditation; contemplation; the capacity for judging rationally – especially in view of a moral rule or standard.

Simply put, reflection is the ability to stop and think.

There was a time that I was at a critical junction in my life. I needed to make certain decisions, knowing fully well that the outcome depended on the clarity of my thoughts and insights.

Why? Because if I didn’t take time to think back on what had been done already and what needed to be done, I would likely not have made a balanced decision.

There are crucial points in every man’s journey to his/her destiny. At these points, it is important the things he/she does – and I perceive that reflection may be one of the important things one can engage at such points.

Now, this doesn’t apply only to seemingly poor situations. Even if your journey is relatively successful, it is very crucial to take time to reflect on how far you have come, where you are, where you are going and what needs to be done for where you are going.

Consider an athlete who has been a winning streak. Regardless of the past feats, he will still take the time to review his strategy and seek ways to improve. This is how it should be for us, too.

As Christians running the Christian race, there is a tendency for us to either steamroll through things, or under the guise of “getting better” we compare ourselves to others without taking moments to reflect on our personal journey, when taking time to stop and think is part of what will help us to finish well.

Take some moments to pause, think, and restrategise. Observe your life through the lens of God’s Word. It will help you to understand your journey better.

[22] But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

[23] For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

[24] For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

[25] But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

James 1:22-25 (KJV)
