A Resilient Mindset (II)

Last week, I discussed what makes up a resilient mindset. Today, I’ll be discussing additional tips and strategies to employ when cultivating a resilient mindset.

Resilience is key in surviving not only physically, but also spiritual. This is because this life is a journey of both spiritual growth and physical growth. The Bible emphasizes resilience as the quality of being able to adapt to stressful life changes and bouncing back despite any hardship.

As believers and humans, we will often encounter storms (i.e. challenging moments) that test our resilience and strength, but God equips us to face those difficulties with courage and perseverance.

[10] You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance,

[11] persecutions, sufferings–what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.

[12] In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,

2 Timothy 3:10-12 (NKJV)

Trials are tests of character, and there are various kinds. They can be related to physical health, marriage and family, relationships, finances, career, and so on.

Whatever form of suffering a believer might partake in presents an avenue to see if he/she is genuine and will serve God, even when things go wrong.

Here are are some strategies you can use in cultivating a resilience mindset;

  • Maintain a positive outlook, viewing challenging moments as opportunities for growth.e
  • Embrace change; adapt to new situations and seek solutions to problems.
  • Understand your strengths and weaknesses.
  • Practice self care; prioritise your spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
  • Build a good Support System: surround oneself with a healthy community of reassuring and supportive people.
  • And above all, cultivate a heart of sincere gratitude towards what God has done, focussing on the present and trusting in His promises for the future.

How does the believer face or respond to suffering in their world, personal or otherwise?

[12] Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you.

[13] But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

1 Peter 4:12-13 (KJV)

We grow in resilience by changing our inward response.
