Starve Your Flesh, Feed Your Spirit (II)

It’s a beautiful experience for us as believers when we change our diets; from satisfying the pullings of our flesh, to feeding fat on the undiluted word of God.

Therein, we receive strength to walk in true righteousness befitting of new creatures in Christ, shine forth the light of God’s love to the degree of His standard set on the cross of Calvary, and become thoroughly equipped with grace and strength to carry out every good work laid upon our hearts by the Spirit.

Still, like babies grow up, there is a need for us to move from our precious milk moments add strong meat, bones, and lots of not-so-tasty-but-nutrient-densed vegetables to our diet as well.

[20] And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove: and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

[21] Howbeit, this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting

Matthew 17:20,21 (KJV)

There is a diet of the Spirit that many believers neglect, enjoying only the nutrients of the living Word.

It’s prayer and fasting!

Just like some meals – when added to our diet – give us a much more balanced and nutritious meal, prayer and fasting is that spirit-defining meal that feeds our spirit fat and starves our flesh to oblivion.

Are struggling with lust, unforgiveness or any other work of the flesh?

You have given yourself to the Word and sincerely you have seen your flesh gradually loose it’s hold on you, but, from time to time, you still feel a bit of a pull too strong for you to say no.

Why not add this ‘meal’ to your diet?

Take sometime to fast and pray with a focus on that which wars with your spirit man, threatening its existence.

Yes, you might not be used to fasting. You have probably never fasted all your life and the thought of staying without food for sometime, no matter how short, quite frankly scares you.

That’s Fleshy speaking, and if you must be robust in your spirit man and strong enough to put him to death daily, you must take up this diet and shut out his lying voice.

You can do it! You can fast. You won’t die, nor will you get sick. There is a diet plan perfectly suitable for you. You just have to take the first step to say no to fleshy and make him starve!

It could be just a day’s fast or two to three days in a month. You can decide to prayerfully break it by 2pm, 12pm or even 10am; as much as your strength can go.

The goal is to first take the little baby steps to nourish your spirit man, laying the right foundation for growth, stability and sustenance.

Fleshy is screaming and echoing ‘no!’ right now, but I can assure you that your spirit man is crying out to you to feed him well and feed him fat.

So, as one,

Who walks not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Romans 8:5 (KJV)

you already know which will be in your best interest.

May we find grace to nourish our spirit man as we ought to in Jesus name,

AMEN!
