CPR

If there’s one basic life support procedure healthcare workers can wax lyrical over, it’s Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). It’s amazing how something so apparently simple can increase a person’s odds of having a near-death experience instead of experiencing death.

So, you’ll understand why so many levels of relatability were unlocked in my brain when my Pastor said using God’s word is how we perform CPR for our faith.

“…but the just shall live by his faith.”

Habakkuk 2:4b (KJV)

This piece of scripture becomes more beautiful to me when it’s read alongside the preceding verse.

“For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie; though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

Habakkuk 2:3 (KJV)

The Christian who seeks to obey God’s Word in this world swims against a current. Consequently, there’s a constant force of attrition attempting to wear your faith out, whether you’re conscious of it or not.

It may sometimes happen that you’re worn down to the last fiber of your faith; those promises are beginning to look less realistic; the question “did God actually say?” is beginning to pop up more frequently in your heart – and you’re not just sure what to believe anymore.

If this is the case for you, it’s a call to be with God’s Word. And it’s super important we treat it as the emergency it is because beyond faith being our very identity, it is our connection to Life.

We build our faith by reminding ourselves of God’s Word and processing everything that happens to us through His word (Romans 10:17).

I pray we all find the Grace to read God’s Word, study it, confess it, remind ourselves of it by all means, pray it and live it. Amen.
