The Art of Loving.

Loving someone the way they want to be loved requires effort, understanding, and communication. It’s about being attentive to their needs, desires, and emotions. In doing this, we build stronger, more meaningful relationships.

In all relationships, this principle is crucial; Instead of loving your friends or spouse the way you want, love them the way they want to be loved.

Ask them questions like “How you want to be loved by me?” through their love language?” and “What’s your love language?”

By understanding and responding to their needs, you’ll nurture a deeper, more fulfilling connections.

Below is a bible passage that reminds us God’s desire towards a believer;

[37] Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

[38] This is the first and great commandment.

[39] And the second is like unto it.
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

[40] On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Matthew 22:37-40 (KJV)

An example of this in Scripture is seen in David’s desire to bring the Ark of Covenant to Jerusalem, a desire which was rooted in his love for and intention to honour God.

However, he neglected to involve God in the execution of his plans. Despite his enthusiasm, even dancing and celebrating before the Lord, a sequence of actions led to Uzzah’s tragic death.

This experience taught David a valuable lesson that can be summarised as this: “don’t love God the way you want to, love God the way He wants to be loved”. And it is a lesson for us to learn, too.

As believers, we must seek to understand God’s ways, His desires, and His heart. We must ask: “God, how do you want me to love you? What pleases you? How do I worship?”

By aligning our actions and intentions with God’s Will, we experience a more authentic, more meaningful faith-walk. We can extend this beyond our relationship with God; it is applicable into our marriages, friendships, and all aspects of life.

Another bible passage emphasises the importance of obedience in our desire for God:

If ye love me, keep my commandments.

John 14:15 (KJV)

In conclusion, let’s remember that good intentions alone are not enough. Strive to love God and others the way they want to be loved, not just the way we want to love them.

By doing so, we build stronger relationships, deepen our faith, and bring joy and fulfillment to God and to those around us.
