Patches

Have you ever held on to one of your old-but-favorite, due to be discarded items because you were hopeful it could still be salvaged? Well, it has happened to me a number of times.

“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

Isaiah‬ ‭43‬:‭19‬ (‭‭‭KJV‬‬)

This was the case of a woman who found a one time favorite dress folded away in her closet. The dress had become wrinkled and faded, but as she was about throwing it out, she thought, “What if I try something different?”

She decided to wash it, added some embroidery patches and paired it with a new scarf. Getting to work the following Monday, she got a lot of compliments. No one could tell it was the same old dress. It wasn’t brand new, it just needed a new perspective.

It’s the year 2025, the New year. For many persons, this automatically means big changes in life. New opportunities, new relationships, new environments – but sometimes what God wants to do is to renew.

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭28‬ (‭‭‭NLT‬‬)

Let’s talk about Moses in Exodus 4, when God asked him “What is that in your hand?”. The staff in his hand was just a tool meant to support his walking but when he surrendered it to God, it became an instrument of miracles no one had ever seen.

What if God wants to give you a new perspective on what you already have?

What if, in this new year, instead of focusing solely on what you don’t have, you ask God to show you what’s already in your possession that needs renewal?

What if there are skills, talents, knowledge, relationships, opportunities already there, waiting to be tapped into, only needing to be perceived in a different light by God’s touch?

“Commit your works to the Lord, And your thoughts will be established.”

Proverbs‬ ‭16‬:‭3‭‭‬‭ (NKJV‬‬)

Beloved, 2025 isn’t just a year for brand new beginnings, it’s also a time to expressly allow God breathe new life into what already exists.

When you invite God into the process, He refreshes, restores and renews. With God, the old can become new and what seemed insignificant can bring great joy and purpose.

So pray for His wisdom and trust Him to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Shalom!
