Speed 2

In the first part of this post, we considered that speed is not only about the fast rate of achieving goals or milestones but is seen in our being where God wants us to be per time.

[1] I will stand my watch And set myself on the rampart, And watch to see what He will say to me, And what I will answer when I am corrected.
[2] Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.
[3] For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.

Habakkuk 2:1-3 (NKJV)

Our emphasis in the last post was in the third verse. However, let’s consider some points in the preceding verses:

  • “I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart (a tower), And watch to see what He will say to me…”

To be where God would have us be, we must first seek to know. One important thing to do regularly and at the beginning of new seasons like this is to stand watch in the place of prayer, fasting and study of the Word. Ask: What is God saying about (insert area of interest or concern) at this time?

We must set ourselves continually to watch to see what the Lord would say to us so that we do not blindly chase goals and ambitions but can ascertain that we are walking according to His will.

  • “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets…”

As we keep watch, it is also important to write down all the promises and instructions that the Lord reveals to us by His Spirit and in His Word. It helps to have a dedicated journal that you can revisit often to remind yourself of His words and directions for every time and season.

In the place of meditation on God’s Word, comfort and reassurance is found, anxieties are allayed and strength for that season is secured.

That being said, always remember that there is speed even in waiting. Push yourself to grow and perform well in all your endeavours but do not succumb to undue pressure. Wait patiently for God’s Word to you to come to pass even if it seems slow in coming.

To paraphrase Habakkuk 2:3 in the Message Translation:

“The vision doesn’t lie. It’s on its way and it will come right on time!”
