The Word of God 2: The Importance of Finding God’s Word

Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

Jeremiah 15:16 (KJV)

In the introductory part of this post, we discussed the Word of God being the only reliable source of direction. In this write-up, I will be explaining the importance of finding God’s Word.

The word of God is life to those who find it.

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and life” (John 11:25). In another verse, he said, “I am the bread of life (John 6:35)

This establishes the fact that there is no life outside God’s word. That is why we see, through Scripture, that a lot of miracles proceeded from Jesus speaking and giving instructions, to the effect that Lazarus who was dead for four days came back to life!

In addition, the book of Proverbs 18:21 says: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

How much more a tongue that has been empowered by the word of God?

I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay or resist.

Luke 21:15 (KJV)

This means anything outside God’s word is foolishness, as God’s word holds the key to absolute wisdom. This was demonstrated in the life of Peter in Luke 5:5 who, deploying his skill and training as a fisherman, toiled all night—yet caught nothing.

But we can see that when he decided to obey Jesus’ instruction (even though it betrayed everything he knew as a fisherman), the result was outstanding.

[5] And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

[6] And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

Luke 5:5-6 (KJV)

Lastly, God’s word contains enormous power! This has been proven numerous times in scripture. It is quick and powerful (Hebrews 4:12). It is the only weapon the enemy cannot resist.

Some people preach that when praying against the devil you have to speak in tongues, as the enemy cannot resist this since he doesn’t understand the language. Although it holds water, I do not believe this to be entirely true, because tongues in the mouth of a Christian that doesn’t know God’s word will produce no result!

When Jesus was tempted after fasting for forty days and nights, He did not speak in tongues when the devil came; He spoke God’s word clearly and with authority.

The Bible says praying in tongues is for your edification (1 Corinthians 14:2-4), so I believe when you speak in tongues, it is meant for you to have more clarity and access in your spirit to the word from God that is meant to tackle whatever situation you might be in at that moment.

This means that, when you pray in the Spirit, it is so that God can give you a response via his word. If this were not so, the people in the old testament who couldn’t speak in tongues as we now can would not have experienced any form of victory over their enemies. An example is David, who overcame Goliath by speaking the word of God (1 Samuel 17:46).

The Bible says the devil himself is disguised as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14) and has thrown several into confusion. The greatest weapon the devil can use against you is your ignorance. That’s why Apostle Paul said, “lest Satan should get an advantage of us for we are not ignorant of his devices” (2 Corinthians 2:11).

Hosea 4:6a says “my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”, and it also says in the book of Proverbs “in all you get, get wisdom for it is the principal thing” (Proverbs 4:7).

Any child of God that doesn’t know God’s word is nothing less than a slave. Even Jesus found where it was written of Him in the scriptures before His earthly ministry (Luke 4:17).

Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me) to do thy will, O God.

Hebrews 10:7 (KJV)

Are you in any dilemma right now or is the devil still cheating you and preventing you from getting God’s best in your health, finances, purpose, marriage, etc?

Then all you need to do is to FIND GOD’S WORD! It always remains the surest route out of any of life’s calamity and sorrow.

I pray you find it!
