Timing (1)

She shifted from one foot to the other, glancing down the street again. It had been a while. The evening sun cast long shadows, and she peered around the corner, half-expecting to see a familiar face. A small, impatient sigh escaped her — half hope, half restlessness. Hoping it was the one she was waiting for.

[37] For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

[38] Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

[38] But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

Hebrews 10:37-39 (KJV)

Have you ever longed for something so badly but you have to wait to have that thing?

You are not alone in this.

Sometimes we hear a good message and our faith is stirred up within us. We begin to believe God for greater things. But after a while, we begin to lose faith and doubt whether those promises are actually true—or if they are only meant for a particular set of people.

In fact, some of us actually heard clearly what God wants to do for us, but our present circumstances do not in any way indicate any possibility of manifestation.

Sometimes, the reason why we doubt God’s promise is the “timing”. We want things to work a particular way. We designate time for certain things to happen to us, including our major “milestones”; graduation, getting a job, being in a relationship, marriage, giving birth, to raising children, retiring etc.

We apply this mentality to when God’s promises should be fulfilled.

[1] To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

[2] A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

[3] A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

Ecclesiastics 3:1-3 (KJV)

From this scripture, we can see that there is a season and a time to everything and purpose on earth. When we further read this chapter, we will see that different things have specific timing.

This reinforces the fact that nothing happens haphazardly in a Christian life. Littered in the word of God is the knowledge that we have been predestined by God for His purpose. For us to walk in His purpose, we must be in time with Him by understanding what He wants to do in specific seasons of our lives.

So often, we become anxious, worried, and concerned based on other people’s timelines. God is not bound by time, as He is the creator of time. Therefore, we might find that we want certain things in conflict with God’s timing.

For us to have our peace, we must know that God doesn’t operate on our manufactured timeline. He works according to his wisdom, not our urgency.

But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.

Habakkuk 2:3 (NLT)

In Habakkuk 2:3, we are given the assurance that His vision for us will be fulfilled. It might look slow, but we are admonished to wait patiently for it. What God has planned for you is best for you. He will fulfil His good plans.

(This is also for those who are waiting upon the Lord and looking expectantly to see when He will come. The Captain said He is coming, He will not delay. He is coming.)

Dear friend, whenever God shows up is the right time. He is never late, He is always on time, and He makes all things beautiful in His time.

  1. This makes so much meaning to me, especially because I had just studied Hab. 2:3 from different versions just some couple of minutes before stumbling on this post via a friend’s WhatsApp status. This obviously came right in time, even though I’m just reading through two days later 😊. Thank you so much for sharing!
