His Voice.

A believer’s ability to recognise God’s voice is a result of his/her intimacy with Him. A practical experience I observed in church service this day pairs in illustration towards recognising our heavenly father’s voice.

During today’s church service, at about one hour to when the sunday school program would end, all children staying with their parents were asked to go to their class.

There was a woman whose child (about a year old) started to cry. Once that happened, her big brother – knowing easily that it was his sister’s voice – laughed and consoled her, saying “Sorry now, don’t cry”. Immediately, the child stopped crying.

This drew my attention because there was another similar-aged child staying beside the boy’s mother and sister. I thought, how was he able to know it was his sister? This means there was something that propelled the brother towards his sister, and that is the fact that he recognises her voice and cries.

[27] My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
[28] And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

John 10:27-28 (KJV)

How well do you know God’s voice? Is your communication with God only when you are in trouble? If so, how then will you be able to recognize His voice?

Many have made bad choices because they couldn’t discern the voices speaking to them.

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.

1 Peter 3:12 (KJV)

Our consistent relationship with God will allow us to know when and how He speaks to us. We can only recognise His voice when we build intimacy through a close walk with Him.
