Speed of Light

Days ago, I saw a friend’s son who was just about four months old as at the last time I saw him. Then, he loved it whenever I carried him and would ease into comfort in my arms, but between then and now, so much has changed.

“When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭11‬ (‭AMP‬‬)

Upon seeing him, all I could do was marvel at how much he’s grown in a matter of months. He can now walk by himself, but I didn’t discover this on time and kept holding his hands while walking around the house. However, he kept struggling for me to let go of his hand, and when I did, he took off at the speed of light. (That was the height of it for me!)

A few times, he’d fall and as I’d be reaching out to pick him up but at the speed of light, he’d get up and had started moving about like he didn’t fall. Other times, he became very tired and hungry, all he could think of was to hurry off to his Mum because the solution to his state was in her control.

This was really intriguing to me. It got me thinking about a lot of things in the Christian journey, which I thought to share.

“Having been deeply rooted [in Him] and now being continually built up in Him and [becoming increasingly more] established in your faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing in it with gratitude.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2‬:‭7‬ (‭AMP‬‬)

Life situations can be such that they gradually start influencing growth processes and patterns. Some individuals soon become extremely independent and self-reliant that they forget to acknowledge or seek His counsel and truth about issues. Eventually, they find their way back the moment there’s an insurmountable obstacle before them. Are you one of them?

There’s rest and peace in knowing that God is rock solid behind you because you keep practicing all that you learnt while you were yet a babe in the faith. It’s just like the child who got up faster from his last fall than the previous ones.

He had fallen over time and gradually understood the concept of falling and standing. He once used to cry, throw tantrums, and maybe refused to get up, and then he mastered the art of failing and picking himself up almost immediately that happens.

“And [I pray] that the eyes of your heart [the very center and core of your being] may be enlightened [flooded with light by the Holy Spirit], so that you will know and cherish the hope [the divine guarantee, the confident expectation] to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints (God’s people).”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1‬:‭18‬ (‭AMP‬‬)

There is one major lesson from today’s piece for you: Never outgrow God.

Regardless of your state of maturity at any point, always recognize those times you need to fall back and let Him do the hand-holding side by side the moments you need to practice all you’ve learnt. Your growth is permitted to happen at the speed of light but you should be sure you are making the most of it.

Ensure there’s a balance. Shalom!
