Behold

“Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.”

It’s a New Year, and as usual, God is always speaking.

For many people, they’ve received a word from God concerning the year; that God is set to do a new thing in our lives this year; that’s it’s going to be a landmark year. But while the notion of newness is exciting, it’s important to pay attention to what is expected of us.

Even as God is set to do new things in our lives, He expects us to behold this new thing He is set to do. He expects us to see it, and keep looking at it with faith in our hearts.

Even when that way in the wilderness hasn’t appeared yet, and even when the desert river beds are still parched, we must keep beholding that “new thing”.

“…’no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.’ But it was to us that God revealed these things by His Spirit. For His Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.”

1 Corinthians 2:9-10 (NLT Paraphrased)

God has called us Sons – that is, His children. A characteristic of a (maturing) Son/child is that they are in the know of what their Father is doing. If God is indeed set to do a new thing this year, then it must not be unknown to us, exactly what He’s doing. If not, how will we be able to behold and keep seeing what He’s doing? How will we be able to recognize it when He does it?

God will not hide what He’s set to do in our lives from us. His Spirit longs to search out and show us all of God’s deep secrets.

However, it’s our responsibility to open our eyes and ears of faith to behold it. It’s our responsibility to write it on tablets so we can run as we read it. It’s our responsibility to keep watching and praying until God accomplishes His Word in our lives; to behold until we become it.

God will do a new thing in our lives this year. The question is—do you see it?
