Learning how to be Desperate.

Desperate (adj.): showing extreme urgency or intensity especially because of a great need or desire.

A few weeks ago, I had a moment when I was urgently searching for an ATM card because I couldn’t access my mobile app to make a money transfer.

In that moment, nothing else mattered: I searched through every corner, opened book after book, flipping through them one by one, eyes scanning, like each page might hold the answer I needed.

Looking back on this experience, all I can remember is my desperation — and a similar instance when I turned the whole house upside down, looking for a specific cloth.

It’s funny how something small can trigger such chaos, but truthfully; the intensity of how I searched, how I also flipped the house inside out, how I wouldn’t rest until I found it; it wasn’t just about the missing items but the need, the value, the urgency and importance I had attached to them.

That’s how we chase things that matter to us.

Oh, how we pour energy into things we believe we need — even when they’re temporary, even when they’re replaceable.

How often do we seek God like that? When was the last time we flipped the pages of His word with such a sense urgency, like life couldn’t go on without us hearing from Him?

Sometimes, the reason we don’t ‘find’ God because we’re not really searching wholeheartedly, not with the level of focus or fire that is needed.

Yet, God says;

And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart

Jeremiah 29:13 (KJV)

What we put value on, how important it truly is to us and how far we’re willing to go for it determines how we chase after it.

So ask yourself: Are you chasing after God like your life depends on it?
