The Heart, The Clutter

Sometimes life feels like a room that’s been left scattered for weeks — clothes on one side, books piled up, things out of place. You may be able to walk in and function, but deep down, you know it’s not how it should be.

This is exactly how our hearts can get; messy, distracted, and weighed down with worries.

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saint.

1 Corinthians 14:33 (KJV)

When our inner lives are cluttered, it becomes harder to hear God clearly, just as an untidy room clogs your mind and automatically makes you feel disorganized. The Holy Spirit moves most freely in an atmosphere of order, and that is why He often nudges us to clear the noise within.

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.

Luke 10:41- 42 (NIV)

Martha’s heart was occupied with a lot of things, but Mary’s was in order, open and ready for Jesus. This is because if we want to walk with God, the state of our heart is critically important.

David also understood this when he prayed for a heart that was aligned with God’s will.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10 (KJV)

Life might be ‘lifing’ right now and you might have a lot of issues holding you down from keeping your heart in order for Jesus to freely move, but I think it’s time to pause and ask God to put things back in place within you. To order your thoughts, quiet the noise, and align your steps to His will.

Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

Psalm 119:133 (KJV)

This is what it looks like to make room for His Spirit, because with less clutter comes more clarity, and the peace that only He brings.

Shalom!
