Christ, Our Hope

He is our anchor that holds firm within the veil,
His blood speaks better things than that of Abel;
Cleansing, washing, redeeming;
He is the embodiment of our hope and our steadfast stay.
In Him, our trust is anchored deep,
A foundation that withstands the fiercest storm.
With Him, we can stand faultless before God's Throne.

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope.

1 Timothy 1:1 (KJV)

During a recent Bible study at church, our facilitator made a profound point that resonated deeply with me: the immense value we need to place on our salvation.

While it’s essential to grow in maturity and enhance our knowledge, we must never forget the incredible journey that brought us into God’s kingdom; the transformative power of the blood of Jesus that atones for our sins.

Not everyone had a groundbreaking salvation experience, but we must understand at a deeper level what Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection truly mean for us. It’s not merely a mental assent but a life-changing experience that should shape our very existence.

In 1 Timothy 1:1, the Apostle Paul describes Jesus Christ as our Lord, our Saviour, and our Hope.

Oftentimes, when we think of hope, we picture a future filled with expectation and joy, a bright light at the end of the tunnel, a happy anticipation for something good—often associated with people, things, or situations.

However, as believers, our hope goes beyond mere expectations; it is rooted in Christ Jesus Himself. Jesus did not merely die and rise again. No, in Him, we find the essence of our Christian hope.

Ephesians 2:12 reminds us that before we came to Christ, we were living apart from Him, excluded from God’s people, and unaware of the incredible promises He had for us. We existed in a world devoid of God and hope.

But now, in Christ Jesus, we have been bestowed with a brand new life and a glorious future in heaven!

Christ as our Hope means He is the author, object, and foundation of all our expectations. This assurance grants us confidence that, irrespective of life’s storms, we can be sure that, ultimately, all will be for our good.

If hope is an expectation for something good, then we can rest assured that we will only anticipate good things from Him, no matter what circumstances arise.

Why is it important for us to live with this conscious awareness?

Paul powerfully articulates in 1 Corinthians 15:19 that if our hope in Christ is limited to this earthly life, we are the most miserable people on the planet.

We possess a profound assurance that, as Christ was raised from the dead, He is the first of a great harvest of those destined for resurrection.

Just as death entered the world through Adam, all who are connected to Christ will be granted new life. And if our hope in Christ is just for this life, then we are indeed the most pitiable of all.

But Christ was raised! He pioneered the resurrection, and all who are united with Him will be revived. Hallelujah!

The order is clear: Christ leads the way, and when He returns, those who belong to Him will follow suit. As 1 Corinthians 15:19-23 tells us, through Adam came death; through Christ comes the promise of new life.

In Hebrews 6:15-20, we learn how Abraham grasped God’s promise; the writer assures us that we now have refuge in God.

We can confidently cling to His promises because, although He is not swearing by His name anymore, we have the assurance of Jesus Christ, who is our anchor; steadfast and sure, eternally grounded in God’s presence as our High Priest.

This assurance guarantees that everything will work together for our good, and that God’s promises will surely come to pass.

Let us constantly remind ourselves of this profound truth: Christ Jesus is not only our Lord and Saviour, He is truly our Hope. Embrace this hope, and let it be the light that guides you through every season of life!
