One Conversation Away

There’s a special place in a manager’s heart for team members who know how to engage in conversations, ask the right questions, seek clarity, and then go ahead to execute ideas effectively.

Since the year began, I have been getting constant reminders that it is one thing to receive instructions, but it’s another thing to interact, understand the intent behind them, and act with confidence.

Those who do this are usually the people trusted with more responsibility, not because they know everything, but because they know how to communicate and move.

Interestingly, while studying certain parts of scripture, I noticed that God relates with His children in a very similar way.

The Patriarchs and Matriarchs did not just receive instructions and walk away in silence, they engaged God in conversations. They asked questions, tried to get clarity, and responded with action once they understood what was required of them. I mean, some didn’t even understand.

After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

Genesis 15:1 (KJV)

God spoke to Abraham often, and Abraham responded honestly. He asked questions, expressed his concerns, and did not pretend to understand what he didn’t. As the conversations continued in Genesis Chapter 17 and 18, God revealed more, gave clearer direction, and even trusted Abraham with insight into His plans, showing us that God values relationship, not just obedience. I get amazed each time I come across this question God asked:

Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do?

Genesis 18:17 (KJV)

This was not limited to Abraham alone. Sarah had moments of questioning before coming into alignment with God’s promise. Joseph carried conversations with God through dreams and interpretation, while Isaac followed divine instructions even when they challenged human reasoning.

These people didn’t just hear God, they interacted with Him, allowed His Words to shape their decisions, and moved once they received clarity.

And the Lord went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.

Genesis 18:22 (KJV)

This is one thing that is still very much effective in this time and age: God speaks and He listens, He answers, and He expects movement.

So the question returns to you today: Are you having conversations with God, or are you only waiting for instructions? What has He been saying to you about your year 2026? Whatever it is, it’s not too early to ask, not too early to seek clarity, and not too early to move once He answers.

Shalom!
