The Moment Time Obeyed

You know how you plan your life down to the smallest detail and secretly expect everything to unfold exactly the way you mapped it out? Not just how you want it, but when you want it.

You set timelines, set those calendar reminders and attach your peace to them, convincing yourself that if things don’t happen by a certain date, something must be wrong.

Then when it doesn’t go according to schedule? Oh! There is a problem.

We start to feel unsettled, question ourselves, see weaknesses we never noticed before. We blame our effort, our discipline, sometimes even our faith, and slowly frustration builds until we are beating ourselves up for something we were never truly designed to control.

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV)

Have you ever paused long enough to consider that no human being actually holds time in their hands?

The thought of this struck me recently about this fact: that something happened when I planned it does not mean I controlled the timing. 

But my times are in thy hand…

Psalm 31:15 (KJV)

We move through life as though we own the clock, but the truth is that time itself answers to God, not to us.

Sarah and Abraham had a promise from God, and if anyone had a reason to feel rushed, it was them. Age was moving really, really fast, hope must have wavered a thousand times, and yet the promise did not manifest because they were ready; it manifested because heaven said it was time.

[1] And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken.

[2] For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

Genesis 21:1–2 (KJV)

Notice those words carefully, at the set time.

Not when they were ideally of age, not when it made the most sense, not when it would have avoided embarrassment, the set time. There was an appointed time, and when that moment arrived, nothing could delay it.

What if the delay in your life is not disorder, but divine timing? What if what feels “late” to you is simply not ripe yet? 

For the vision is yet for an appointed time… though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Habakkuk 2:3 (KJV)

Maybe the peace you are searching for is not found in making things happen faster, but in surrendering your timeline completely. Maybe rest comes when you accept that your responsibility is obedience and preparation, while God remains the keeper of time.

When the door opens or the promise appears, you will realize it was never late, never forgotten, never misplaced.
